In the last weekend of action in the DCB Women’s Super Series between the Rubies and the Diamonds, both teams went home with a win each after successfully chasing demanding totals. The shared result means that – at the end of the tournament – the Rubies (pictured right) were the dominant team of this season, after also winning both Super Series matches in June in Cologne.
On Saturday in the first match of the double-header, the Rubies kept their good form going, pulling in an impressive 199 run total posted by the Diamonds in the 40 over game. While Tina Gough scored 53 runs for the Diamonds first up, Anuradha Doddaballapur scored 60 not out and Rubies captain Stephanie Frohnmayer made 48 in reply to get the Rubies over the line. Pick of the bowlers on the day was national team player Milena Beresford, who picked up 3-40 in the first innings.
In a thrilling T20 match on Sunday morning, the Rubies batted first posting a competitive 162 runs on the board, with Frohnmayer again scoring an unbeaten 72 not out. While Tina Gough also shone in the reply, it was Medha Daub und Denise Grützke who helped the Diamonds score the winning runs with one ball to spare, in what ended up being a real nail-biter.
The matches mark the last weekend of the DCB Women’s Super Series competition between the two teams this season. DCB Women’s Officer Monika Loveday said that the inaugural tournament was a success.
„It was there to fill the gap between the league and national team, to create a good standard of cricket,“ Loveday said. „This last weekend definitely showed that.“
Meanwhile, DCB women’s Bundesliga matches are still ongoing, the next game will be between Köln vs Göttingen on August 1 in Chorweiler. The German women’s national team will also be in Holland on the August 2 playing against Sallam CC, before the team journeys to Jersey on August 4 for a five nation tournament.
