Unsere Frauen-Nationalmannschaft war in Kigali und nahm an der 8. Auflage des Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament teil. In diesem Jahr nahmen acht Länder, darunter auch Deutschland, an dem Wettbewerb teil. Die Mannschaften kamen hauptsächlich aus Afrika, diese waren aus Tansania, Kenia, Uganda, Ruanda, Nigeria und Botswana. Brasilien und Deutschland waren die einzigen Teilnehmer von außerhalb des Kontinents. Der Wettbewerb wird jedes Jahr im Gedenken an die Tutsi und zur Förderung des Frauensports im Land veranstaltet.
Unsere Eagles kämpften hart, um den Schwung nach 7 Niederlagen zu brechen und gewannen das letzte Spiel gegen Botswana, womit sie den Wettbewerb auf Platz 7 beendeten. Es war noch nicht alles verloren, denn die Frauen haben auf und neben dem Spielfeld Erfahrungen gemacht, die ihnen das Gewinnen der Spiele nicht hätte vermitteln können. Wir können aus Niederlagen nur stärker werden und uns verbessern, wenn wir gegen bessere Gegner spielen. Diese Erfahrung hat dem Team die Augen geöffnet und uns gezeigt, was wir in naher Zukunft erreichen wollen, wenn es um das Niveau des Crickets geht, welches uns im Assoziiertes Länder erwartet.
Wir möchten allen Organisatoren des ruandischen Cricket-Verbandes dafür herzlich danken, dass sie so großartige Gastgeber waren und uns die Zeit dort unvergesslich gemacht haben. Ein großes Dankeschön geht auch an den DCB Support Staff – Michael Thewlis, Monika Loveday, Ladi Sonaike & Haitham Alkoraydi, die eine sehr wichtige Rolle für das Team gespielt haben und uns während der gesamten Tournee unterstützt haben.
The Golden Eagles in Rwanda
Our national women’s team were in Kigali and took part in the 8th Edition of Kwibuka Women’s T20I Tournament. Eight countries including Germany took part in the contest this year, with primarily African teams, namely Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Nigeria and Botswana but Brazil and Germany joined this time being the only attendees from outside the continent. The competition is held every year in the remembrance of the Tutsi and to promote women’s sport in the country.
Our Eagles fought hard to break the momentum after 7 losses to win the final game v. Botswana, finishing the competition in 7th place. All wasn’t lost as the women have had experiences on and off the pitch that winning couldn’t have taught them.
We can only grow stronger in defeat and can only better ourselves by playing against better opponents. This experience has been an eye-opener for the team and what we aim to achieve in the near future, with regard to the standard of cricket that awaits us in the associate space.
We would like to thank all the organisers from the Rwanda Cricket Association for being such great hosts and making our time there memorable. Also a massive thank you to the DCB Support Staff – Michael Thewlis, Monika Loveday, Ladi Sonaike & Haitham Alkoraydi, who have played an impactful role for the team and supported them throughout the tour.
