Köln CC have once again earned the right to represent the state of NRW at the DCB playoffs, after moving to an unassailable lead in the WDCV-run Bundesliga West competition on Sunday. The success marks an incredible fifth local title in a row for the Cologne-based side and the 15th NRW title overall in the history of the club.
In their second-last game of the season against Bonn Golden Star in Bonn, Köln were sent in to bat and ended up scoring 320. Top scorers for the guests were Satya Srinivas with 60, Khadem Saifullah with 58 and Dhruv Patel with 55.
In the second innings, Köln CC fast bowler Sahir Naqash continued his strong form with the ball grabbing his second 7-wicket-haul of the season to help bowl out the Bonn side for just 66. The victory means that Köln remain undefeated this season in both T20 and 50 over cricket.
Speaking after the game, Köln wicketkeeper and national team player Satya Srinivas said that it has been an „out and out team effort“ from his side this season. „Every single person has put his hand up with some kind of a performance of note, which has contributed to the team’s success,“ he said.
Despite believing that Köln has a „great chance“ this year in the national Bundesliga playoffs beginning on August 9th, Srinivas isn’t getting too carried away though. „Everyone knows that every team from each region has earned their spot to be there,“ Srinivas warned.
After their final Bundesliga West league game this weekend, Köln will take on northern German champions SG Findorff on August 9th for a right to play in the semis of the Deutsche Cricketmeisterschaft (DCM). The competition grand final is set to take place on Sunday, August 30th in Berlin.
